Room22a

Jora opens the door and steps through and then immediately recoils.

Before him is a pit, seemingly bottomless. The roughhewn walls of this room encircle a chasm plunging deep into the earth. Staring downward he thinks he sees a dim red glow. Could he be seeing the fires of the underworld?

There is a narrow ledge, barely wide enough to stand upon which circles the pit to the far side of the room where a door awaits them.

“No, no, no,” Safir says. “I’m not going in there.”

“What’s the problem?” Lamia peeks past Safir’s shoulder at the bottomless pit before them.

    “I can’t, it’s too high. We’ll fall.”

    “Are you afraid of heights?”

“Are you serious? It’s a bottomless pit for Gods’ sake. If we fall we die.”

Safir jumps slightly as Jora puts his arm around her and then relaxes and actually snuggles into his protective embrace.

“Safir, we have to keep moving. I promise you that I’ll help you through this.”

Her voice quivers but Safir nods her agreement. “If you say so, Jora.”

Jora gives her a squeeze and then releases the girl and peers around the room.

On one side of the room is a black door; directly across from it is a white one.

Hovering magically in the air before him are two mirrors.

In the black framed mirror he sees a rickety rope bridge spanning the chasm. It is festooned with cobwebs and the wooden boards making up its path are cracked and rotting. He sees his companions and himself crossing as a tightly huddled group.

In the white framed mirror he sees the same bridge but the companions have joined hands and are crossing one by one.
