Room15c
Jora reaches for the white mirror and once more they rush through the freezing mirror dimension into an alternate of the room. The mirrors have disappeared but the pedestal now holds a thick codex. The book is as thick as Jora’s hand is wide and the wooden covers are bound with leather. On the face of the codex is a white skull emblem. The detail of the skull is worthy of an expert artisan. The skull is anatomically accurate and tiny runes are carved across the brow.
“I wonder if this is real bone?” Conrad touches the skull tentatively. “Who wants to open the book?”
“I will,” Lamia says.
She walks up to the pedestal and grasps the edge of the cover.
“Maybe everyone should step back, just in case.”
The remaining trio back away to the edges of the room as Lamia opens the book.
Sickly green light erupts from within the codex as the pages are revealed.
The light washes across Lamia whose expression turns from one of wonder into agony. She falls to the ground choking and then grows still. Her body shrinks in upon itself, withering like a fruit left in the sun.
The green light expands outward from the book and fallen girl. The surviving trio back to the walls. Conrad and Jora grasp the handles of the doors and scream in pain. The doors will not provide an exit.
The green light reaches the adventurers and bathes them in its brilliance. All three choke and collapse and wither, exactly like Lamia.
The green light licks the walls and then blinks out leaving behind four withered corpses.
